THIRUVANANTHAPURAM
, February 8: Several forest areas including sanctuaries in Kerala have come under the gripof sporadic fires with the onset of hot days of summer.

Fires have been detected by NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System in forests in Wayanad and Idukki districts, Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary and forests of Agastyakoodam Biosphere Reserve in Kerala during the past seven days.

Fires have been reported from Ananganmala near Ottappalam last week. The fire, that started sometime during the day yesterday, spread to Panamanna and Kizhoor areas by night. The Forest Department could do little to check the fire.

Most of these fires are caused by humans accidently or deliberately.
