Eravikulam National Park reopens for visitors

MUNNAR, September 2: Ervavikulam National Park has opened for visitiors following lifting of ban on tourism in Idukki district imposed by the collector in view of floods and consequent damage to infrastructure.

However, road to the tourist area of the Park is still not fully motorable.

Neelakurinji has flowered in the Park, but only sporadically. Massive flowering is expected if the plant gets sunshine for another week, according to Park officials.

However, massive flowering has been reported from Kanthalloor, about 45 km from Munnar, which is outside the protected area.

The collector has opened all tourist spots in the district such as Thekkady, Vagamon, Mattupetty, Ramackalmedu and Idukk Park to tourists. Bus services to Munnar and boating at Thekkady, Kundala, Anayirankal, Mattupetty and Shengulam reservoirs have been resumed.

Entry to the national park is from 8 am to 4 pm. The ticket rates are Rs. 120 for adults and Rs. 90 for children (Rs. 400 for foreigners).
