Kurinji blooms again at Santhanpara in Idukki district
At Santhanpara

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, August 03, 2021.

Kurinji has flowered again at Santhanpara in Idukki district.

The flowering has taken place on a hilltop some distance away from the Santhanpara - Senapathy road in the district.

Kurinji had flowered in this locality back in 2009. If a large number of flowering was seen at that time on grassland at kazhuthakulam, this time gregarious flowering is reported from nearby Kizhakathimala near Thottikanam.

The last massive flowering of kurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) in Munnar area had taken place in 2018. It takes the plant 12 years to complete its flowering cycle.

Santhanpara is among smaller areas where kurinji blooms every 12 years. The next larger blooms around Munnar are expected in 2026 and 2030.
