World Wildlife
THEKKADY, March 3, 2016: The Periyar Tiger Reserve imposed a restriction of vehicle traffic from entry point to boat landing in Thekkady to coincide with World Wildlife Day on Thursday.

The Haritha Dinam was observed from 6 am to 6 pm as a gesture to reduce air and sound pollution. Visitors to the Reserve were asked to walk or cycle to the boat landing. Cycles were provided for this purpose.

The Forest Department, however, made two vehicles available to carry older persons and physically challenged.

World Wildlife Day is being observed with the motto that the future of elephant is in your hands. Poaching and degradation of habitat have emerged as major threats to elephants in Kerala. Man-animal conflicts are also increase.
