The first flowers of the season has bloomed on the kurinji hills. The gregarious flowering of the plant is yet to commence. These are the early blossoms which will spread across the mountain slopes in a few months. They will turn purplish as they wane.

The flowering of the plant had been reported earlier this year (2006) from Kodaikanal.  The participants of the  Save Kurinji Campaign Jatha had spotted flowers on their way between Kodaikanal and Munnar in May.

This picture (on the right) of the flower unfolding its petals comes from Anoop Anand. It was taken at Rajamala, Eravikulam National Park, on June 10, 2006.
